New and refurbished drums for Michael Wirth, drummer with Swing Dancing Orchestra Berlin

Last year, we were contacted by Mr Michael Wirth, the drummer with Swing Dancing Orchestra Berlin, for whom we – in three separate phases - produced and restored some vintage style drums. Phase one was a brand new drumset BD 28”, TT 10”, FTT 14” and SD 13”. The drumset's image was adopted from another set of ours, the one we created for Mr Jiří Novák with Melody Makers and which literally enchanted Mr Wirth. The bass drum was made of beech veneer and was 9 mm thick + reinforcement rings. For the toms and the snare, American solid walnut wood was chosen. Later we drove to Germany's capital again, with another 28” bass drum meant for smaller stages. It looked the same but was only 10” deep and its shell was only 3 mm thick with 9 mm reinforcement rings. In the third phase of our cooperation, we were entrusted with the task of refurbishing Michael's main drumset which had been put together from different parts throughout the previous years. The bass drum was a Pearl concert drum 28”x14”, TT, which Michael had inherited from his father, was Trowa 13”x8”. The tom's shell was unfortunately badly damaged, so we had to replace it with six-ply birch shell with six-ply reinforcement rings. The floor tom 18”x16” was from a Mapex Meridian maple set. The snare drum was a Yamaha Elvin Jones 14”x6,5”. We ended up restoring the original condition of the snare and making a brand new Hallvad solid block snare made of solid mahogany. We emulated the look of the original wooden hoops and added a reinforcement aluminium layer in the new hoops. What is really interesting is that the whole kit is fitted with tube lugs of our own production. We cooperated on them with our uncle Gustav, a great craftsman who contributed to the process with making original vintage looking clamps and holders for cymbals, bells etc. The set therefore has an original vintage design and several special accessories which will hopefully be appreciated by the owner. So far, we have only seen satisfaction in the city on the Spree river.
